Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can you replace a broken window?
Usually within a week, often within 24 hours outside of peak season. I don’t like to promise exact timeframes since it depends on what’s on the schedule, but turnaround is generally quick. During peak season things can book out further in advance. If I can’t fit you in myself, I know other great glaziers in Adelaide and can usually point you to someone who can help.
Are pet doors safe for my existing glass?
Yes, but it depends on what you mean by “safe.” Pet doors are installed into toughened safety glass, which is specifically designed to break into small pieces rather than dangerous shards. That greatly reduces the risk of serious injury compared to ordinary glass.
That said, we’re also upfront that glass is still glass. Toughened glass can break, and while it’s uncommon, spontaneous breakage does occasionally occur. If a panel were to break around someone, particularly if they were barefoot, cuts are possible.
In our experience, serious injuries from 4mm–6mm toughened safety glass are extremely unlikely, but we don’t believe in pretending the risk is zero. We’d rather give you an honest answer than tell you it’s “completely safe” because no glass product can truthfully make that claim.
Do you provide free onsite quotes?
No. In most cases we can provide a free online quote from clear photos, approximate sizes and your suburb. This saves you both time and money.
If you require Burnside Glass to attend your property for an inspection or measure before quoting, we charge $180–$250, depending on the job.
We don’t offer free on-site quotes because we believe our time has value. In fact, many of the jobs we complete come from customers who have already had another glazier attend, only to never receive a quote or a follow-up. We’d rather be upfront about our process from the beginning.
